Malaysia Customs seizes 20 kg ketamine

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 22 (Xinhua)-- The Malaysian Customs has seized 20 kg ketamine at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport located 75 km from the capital Kuala Lumpur, foiling an attempt by a syndicate to smuggle the drug into the country, local media reported on Monday.

The drug with a street value 700,000 ringgit (194,000 U.S. dollars) were found inside a parcel containing women's handbags at the International Airport. The package had been flown in from Chennai in India.

Malaysia recently has stepped up its operations against drug trafficking and seized a total of 49.1 kg of drugs in three other raids over the past month, local newspaper The Star said.

Last Saturday, Malaysian Customs officers captured Stainless Steel Earrings 3.6 kg of ganja worth of 13,000 ringgit (3,600 U.S. dollars) in a bag left at a parking lot near the Thai border check point Bukit Kayu Hitam upon a tip-off.

Last

On Nov. 24, Malaysian Customs officers detained a 26-year-old man from Acheh at Port Klang, who was carrying 5.5 kg of ganja worth 25,000 ringgit (7,000 U.S. dollars).

The drug was found hidden in two packages containing some Indonesian cakes.

The Achehnese man has already been charged in the court and he would face the death sentence if found guilty, according to the newspaper.
